Read More, Ponder More

"It is better to read a little and ponder a lot than to read a lot and ponder a little." --Denis Parsons Burkitt

As (reading) teachers and Reading Specialists, we should help students delve deeper into whatever they read. We should encourage students to read for understanding and to internalize what they read. As per the articles and discussions, properly trained Reading Specialists can be the KEY to help motivate readers to be lifelong learners!

  1. Great quote Christine, this summed up my whole experience on the chapter readings. I read little but I pondered alot and even though I was frustrated, I learned alot today during our discussions.

  4. Sounds like a great time to start using DRTA - Directed Reading Thinking Activity. Students don't necessarily have the skills to internalize what they read, they have to taught it and guided through the process. This is what really excites me about being a reading specialist. There are so many ways to work with students.
