To assume you know someone well enough that you can and do predict their behavior and mental perspective is a gross and often tragic mistake, for it eliminates that person's freedom to create his or her own opinion and drastically affects the emerging picture of the relationship.http://groups.gaia.com/gaia_books/331943/agartha/by_meredith-l-young-sowers

Faye, I agree! so often we are so busy teaching to the students and finding ways to help them learn, we fail to see their other talents. During content area time is when I see them shine! in Art and the discussions we have with science. There is no script to follow and the students are free to share their other talents.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's tough to take a step back and allow things to blossom as they might. Teachers are used to being in control, and while it's necessary, maybe we often take it too far. Whether in assessments, everyday classroom dynamics, or our personal relationships I think it's a good thing to keep in mind what Faye points out--don't be caged in by, and don't cage others in with, our assumptions.
